Search for the best barrel sauna and the top results are mostly store category pages: a grid of photos, a "from" price and little else. I wanted one table where the price, heater, electrical load, weight and warranty each trace to a maker or retailer page I opened on 2026-10-06, with "Not shown" wherever the page said nothing. That blank is the useful part, because several listings skip the weight or the heater.

I cover nine outdoor barrel saunas, from a $3,599 Backyard Discovery kit to a $14,132 Almost Heaven Kuuma. Prices are a snapshot, and they move with sales.

What the top results leave out

Ahrefs (US) puts "barrel sauna" at roughly 16,000 searches a month, "barrel sauna kit" at 1,600 and "outdoor barrel sauna" at 1,100, with "best barrel sauna" at 300 and "barrel sauna cost" at 150. The top organic spots I saw were retailer and maker collection pages from Sun Valley Saunas, Redwood Outdoors, Almost Heaven and SaunaLife, plus a video and a few product listings. Collection pages show a "from" price. They rarely show weight, whether the heater is in the box, or what circuit the heater needs.

So the angle here is a sourced comparison with an honest "Not shown" column. Heater inclusion and the electrical line are the two items I'd want before ordering, and they decide your real barrel sauna cost far more than the sticker.

Quick picks: who each barrel sauna suits

Prices are what the page showed on 2026-10-06. Heater power and circuit are as the page states them.

How I picked and what I can't claim

I haven't sat in, heated or carried any of these. I'm not an engineer or an electrician, and nothing here replaces an installer's quote. When I write "the maker says" or "the page lists", that is all I know.

I picked models where I could open a product page with at least a price and either a heater line or a weight. I mixed makers, and I kept to outdoor barrels because the main keyword is about those. I leave out any maker whose pages I couldn't open or that gave only a headline price. SaunaLife's own category page, for example, lists ten barrel models (E6 through EE8G) and says nothing about price, size or heater, so I used retailer pages for the specs. I also saw Aleko listings only through a search result, so I used the one Aleko product page I could open.

This is what I could not verify for the group:

Backyard Discovery Paxton: the cheapest with a heater

This is a barrel sauna kit from a big outdoor-living brand, and the Shop Abunda page lists it at $3,599, down from $3,999. The page says 2 to 4 people, dimensions of 81.9 x 76 x 79.7 inches (it doesn't label which number is which), 858 lbs and a 9kW electric heater. It lists cedar tongue-and-groove construction, an 8mm tempered glass door and a 5-year comprehensive warranty.

Electrical is the catch: the page says it needs a 240V, 50-amp connection and a professional electrician. A 9kW heater at 240V draws 37.5 amps (my arithmetic: 9,000 / 240), so the 50A circuit is a real install job. If your panel has no 50A slot spare, that line item may cost more than the savings against a 6kW model.

The page says assembly is ready-to-assemble with pre-cut parts and app-guided instructions. It doesn't say how long assembly takes, and I wouldn't guess. Its weight of 858 lbs is the lowest of the four-seat models with a listed weight, but the page's seat range of 2 to 4 may mean tight quarters with four adults, and I can't tell you which it is.

Golden Designs St. Moritz: lightest two-seater

Sun Valley lists the St. Moritz 2-person at $4,999, reduced from $6,999. It shows 80" wide, 60" deep and 80" high outside, 550 lbs, and a 6kW Harvia heater with built-in controls and stones included. The electrical line is 240V at 30 amps for the heater plus 120V at 15 amps for lights and music, and the page says 10-gauge wire and a certified electrician. Wood is listed as Pacific cedar, and the warranty as 10 years comprehensive.

The page gives no interior dimensions, which matters when you're sizing for two people with towels and a bench you can lie on. The $2,000 markdown (my arithmetic: 6,999 minus 4,999) suggests the "was" price is a list price rather than a price people paid. That's an inference, so check what the page says when you open it.

Almost Heaven Salem: two-person barrel with an install option

The Salem 2-person is $4,036.50 on sale against $4,485 regular, with three heater options and several door and window choices on the page. Assembled it measures 78" wide, 47" deep and 75⅜" high, and the interior is 75¼" by 39¼" by 69¼" with a 16" wide bench. The page lists a 6kW, 240V, 30-amp hard-wired heater, plus a 110V, 15-amp plug-in for the light. Lumber is 1⅜" ball-and-socket cedar.

The warranty is a limited lifetime on manufacturing defects, with the Harvia heater at 1 year on elements and 5 years on other components. Professional installation starts at $1,400 and shipping is 6 to 8 weeks, per the page. Weight isn't shown.

Adding the install fee to the sale price gives $5,436.50 (my arithmetic: 4,036.50 plus 1,400), before any electrician, concrete or gravel work. That is a floor and not a quote, since the page says "starting at".

Baldy: one model, three sizes

Sun Valley Saunas lists its own Baldy at $5,999.99, marked down from $8,499.99, in 2, 4 or 6 person versions. The listed footprints are 6'W x 6'H x 4'D for the 2 person, 6' by 6' by 6' for the 4 person and 6' by 6' by 7' for the 6 person. A Harvia Kip heater with stones is standard and a Huum upgrade is offered. It's Western red cedar made in Idaho, with a 10-year warranty covering the sauna and heater but not the heating elements or rocks.

The page doesn't show the heater's kilowatts, voltage or amps, and it doesn't show weight. I also can't tell from the page which size the $5,999.99 applies to. If you're looking at the Baldy, ask which size that price is for, and ask what circuit it needs, before you plan the electrical.

Almost Heaven Pinnacle: four seats, 6-foot barrel

The Pinnacle is $6,060 on sale from $7,575, a 4-person barrel. Exterior is 78" by 71" by 81½", interior 75¼" by 63¼" by 69¼", with a 63¼"-long bench. The heater is a 6kW Harvia at 240V and 30 amps, hard-wired, and the page says it ships in 6 to 8 weeks. The warranty text matches the Salem's: limited lifetime on manufacturing defects, with the heater's 1-year and 5-year split.

It costs $2,023.50 more than the Salem (my arithmetic: 6,060 minus 4,036.50) for the extra bench length and seats. Same heater, same circuit. That's the thing I find interesting here: going from two seats to four didn't change the electrical load on the pages I opened, though the page doesn't say whether a 6kW heater is enough for the larger room. The maker's heater options are a KIP with dials, a KIP smart heater and a Spirit smart heater.

Dundalk Serenity: the big porch cedar kit

Sun Valley lists the Dundalk Leisurecraft Canadian Timber Serenity at $6,127, from $6,699.99, for four people. The page says two benches long enough to lie down and a small exterior porch with two seats, 86.25" by 94.5" by 86.25" outside and 83" by 71" by 79" inside, at 1,111 lbs, in Eastern Canadian white cedar. Shipping is free and insured with a 3 to 4 week estimate, and an installation manual is available to download.

The heater isn't shown on that page. A sibling Dundalk model, the Tranquility, is listed on another retailer's page with the heater sold separately: a Harvia Kip 6kW at 240V, 25 amps on a 30-amp breaker, or a wood-burning Harvia M3, with a 3-year warranty against defects. I can't carry that over to the Serenity, and the Serenity page itself mentions a ten year warranty alongside a two year manufacturer's warranty, which I can't reconcile. Ask the seller what the 10-year term covers and who holds it.

A 6kW heater at 240V is 25 amps (my arithmetic: 6,000 / 240), which matches the Tranquility page's 25-amp figure.

SaunaLife E7: heater sold separately

The E7 is $6,140 on the Sun Valley page, down from $6,990, with the heater not in the base price. A Harvia Kip 6kW adds $1,220 and a 6kW Huum Drop bundle adds $3,090. With the Harvia the total is $7,360 (my arithmetic: 6,140 plus 1,220), and $9,230 with the Huum (6,140 plus 3,090).

It seats four, with a 63" long, 77" diameter interior and an exterior of 71" by 81". The page lists 1,212 lbs without the heater, thermally modified spruce, Thermo-Aspen benches and a 10-year comprehensive warranty. Delivery is curbside only, with an appointment, and you do the assembly.

Select Fitness lists the glass-front E7G at $7,140 from $7,980, weighing 1,234 lbs, with a downloadable warranty document that the page doesn't summarize. The page claims two people can finish the assembly in one day, which is the maker's line and not something I've checked. At 1,212 lbs the E7 is more than double the 550 lbs of the St. Moritz, so if you're choosing a base, that weight sets the foundation question.

ALEKO 3-4 person: accessories in the box

The Wood Art Supply page lists the ALEKO at $6,899, with opposing full-length benches, a 4.5kW UL-certified Harvia heater, and a bucket, scoop, thermohygrometer, lamp, heater fence and stones. It's rustic cedar, 220-240V hardwired, and the page recommends an electrician. The page says it can be set up in a few hours with the included guide.

The page shows no dimensions, weight or warranty. A 4.5kW heater draws 18.75 amps at 240V (my arithmetic: 4,500 / 240), lower than the 6kW models, but without room dimensions I can't say whether it's sized for four people. At $6,899 it costs $839 more than the Pinnacle, which has a 6kW heater and a stated warranty (my arithmetic: 6,899 minus 6,060). I'd only buy it if the accessories matter to you.

Almost Heaven Kuuma: the premium end

I wrote a separate Almost Heaven Kuuma review, so this is the short version. The maker's page lists $14,132 for 4 to 6 people, 88¹³⁄₁₆" by 72⁷⁄₁₆" by 90⅛" outside and 84" by 63" by 83½" inside, thermal Nordic pine outside, linden benches and a tempered glass door. The heater is 8kW or 9kW at 240V with a 40 or 45 amp requirement, hard-wired. Warranty is limited lifetime on manufacturing defects, with the Harvia heater at 1 and 5 years. Weight isn't shown.

It costs $8,072 more than the Pinnacle (my arithmetic: 14,132 minus 6,060). What that buys, from the page, is more headroom (83½" against 69¼" inside), a larger heater and different wood. Whether that is worth it is your call and I can't settle it from specs.

Barrel sauna cost: what the pages show

The sticker price is only part of it. Here's what I could source.

Line itemAmount from a page
Kit, 2 seats$3,599 to $5,999.99
Kit, 4 seats$6,060 to $6,899
Heater upgrade (SaunaLife E7)$1,220 (Harvia 6kW) or $3,090 (Huum 6kW)
Professional install (Almost Heaven)From $1,400
Electrician, base, deliveryNot shown on any page I opened

I couldn't source the electrician or foundation lines from these pages, so I leave them out. My outdoor sauna cost and sauna cost guides cover running cost and install ranges where I found sources. The honest answer is that a listed kit price plus the install fee is a floor, and the electrical work is the item most likely to move your total.

How to choose a barrel sauna

These are decision rules built from the numbers above.

Check the heater first. Of the nine models here, seven show a heater in the price. The E7 doesn't, and the Dundalk Serenity page doesn't say. A missing heater adds $1,220 or more on the one page that prices it.

Do the amp math. Divide watts by volts. A 6kW heater at 240V is 25 amps, 9kW is 37.5 amps (my arithmetic). The pages ask for 30A circuits on the 6kW models, 50A for the Paxton and 40 or 45A for the Kuuma. Your panel's spare capacity decides which of these is easy.

Plan for weight. The listed weights run from 550 lbs to 1,234 lbs, and the heaviest are the SaunaLife and Dundalk models over 1,100 lbs. A weight the page doesn't show, as with the Almost Heaven models, is a question to ask before you pour a pad.

Read the warranty wording. The pages show 3 years, 5 years, 10 years and limited lifetime on defects. Those aren't the same promise. Ask who pays labor and shipping after the first year.

Match the seat count to the interior. A bench length (63¼" on the Pinnacle, 39¼" on the Salem) tells you more than "4 person". If you want to lie down, the Dundalk page is the only one that says its benches are long enough.

Ask about a wood heater. The Dundalk Tranquility page lists a wood-burning option, and my Kuuma review mentions a wood-burning kit from Almost Heaven. If you have no 240V line, a wood-fired heater is one way around it, though I haven't priced it. For other outdoor formats see my best outdoor sauna roundup.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a barrel sauna cost?

On the pages I opened, kit prices ran from $3,599 to $14,132. Most two-seat models sat between $4,000 and $6,000 and four-seat models between $6,000 and $6,900. Install, electrical work and a base come on top, and my sauna cost guide shows what I found for those.

Does a barrel sauna come with a heater?

It depends on the listing. The Paxton, St. Moritz, Salem, Pinnacle, Baldy, Aleko and Kuuma pages show one included, while the SaunaLife E7 page prices the heater as an add-on. Read the product page for the sentence about the heater before you compare prices.

What power does an outdoor barrel sauna need?

The electric models I read ask for 240V and a hard-wired circuit, mostly 30 amps for 6kW heaters, with 50 amps on the 9kW Paxton. A light circuit at 120V is sometimes listed too. Get an electrician to check your panel before you order.

How hot does a barrel sauna get?

I can't give you a measured number. The Aleko page lists an adjustable range of 158 to 194°F for its heater, which is the maker's claim about the heater setting and not a room reading. My sauna temperature guide covers what temperatures people aim for. If you have heart or blood pressure concerns, or are pregnant, ask a doctor before using any sauna.

Can I assemble a barrel sauna myself?

Several makers say yes. Almost Heaven's pages call it "very DIY friendly", SaunaLife says one day with two people, and Aleko says a few hours. Those are maker statements. The heater wiring still needs an electrician on every page that mentions it.

What I would do

If you want a backyard barrel with an electrician-ready circuit and a tight budget, I'd put the Salem at $4,036.50 next to the St. Moritz at $4,999. The Salem is cheaper and comes from a maker that offers installation from $1,400, while the St. Moritz lists a 10-year warranty, an interior I can't see and a listed weight. I'd take the Salem, and I'd ask for the weight first.

For four people, I'd choose between the Pinnacle at $6,060 and the SaunaLife E7 at $7,360 with its Harvia heater. The Pinnacle lists a heater and a 30A circuit, while the E7 lists a 10-year warranty and a heavy 1,212 lbs. If you don't have a 240V line yet, price the electrician before you click buy on any barrel sauna, because that quote decides which kit is really the cheapest. I'd skip the Kuuma unless the glass-front build is what you want, since the maker's page is the only evidence I have for what the extra $8,072 buys.
