This plunge chill review is a desk review of a store, not a test of its chillers. I haven't ordered from Plunge Chill and I haven't run any of its equipment. I read the home page and four product pages on 2026-10-09 and compared what each one says with the others. The pages disagree with themselves in several places, and I list those so you can ask before you pay.
A disclosure first: the links to Plunge Chill on this page are affiliate links, and Plunge Chill pays me a commission if you buy through them. It doesn't change what I write or the order of anything here.
Plunge Chill review: the quick verdict
The prices are the headline. The 1/3 HP chiller is $499 and the 1 HP chiller is $1,099, and the 1/3 HP unit is $600.99 under the $1,099.99 I list for the Penguin 1/2 HP in my best cold plunge chiller roundup (my arithmetic). A smaller compressor, so the comparison is about price, not capacity. Every price on the store is a sale price beside a "regular" figure roughly double it, and the sale banner says "UP TO 55% OFF" with discounts "already applied". I treat the regular price as a label and judge the product on what it costs today.
The specs are thinner than the prices. None of the four pages I opened shows amps, a voltage rating or a flow rate. No page shows a safety certification either, even though the home page FAQ mentions UL and IPX8. If you buy, I'd ask for those in writing first. Check Plunge Chill's current prices
What I saw on the home page
The navigation lists Shop All, Cold Plunge Chillers, Cold Plunge Tubs, Bundles and a Filter Kit. Four products had prices:
| Product | Sale price | "Regular" price | Gap (my arithmetic) | Share of regular |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Cold Plunge Chiller | $499 | $1,099 | $600 | 54.6% |
| 1HP Cold Plunge Chiller | $1,099 | $2,199 | $1,100 | 50.0% |
| Cold Plunge Tub with Chiller (Pod) | $569 | $1,199 | $630 | 52.5% |
| Cold Plunge Chiller + Tub (Max) | $659 | $1,399 | $740 | 52.9% |
The home page also names a Chiller + Tub (Pro), a 1HP Chiller + Tub (Plus), a 1HP Chiller + Tub (Pro), a Chiller + Tub (Plus) XXL and the Filter Kit, all without prices. I didn't open those pages. The page claims a "600W industrial compressor", cooling to 42°F, and 39 to 45 dB of noise, and says the units are UL-certified and IPX8-rated in its FAQ. I can't confirm any of that from a certificate, because none is shown.
The four products in numbers
Cold Plunge Chiller (1/3 HP). The page shows $499, a 1/3 HP compressor, 600W, 14.9" by 11.8" by 12.6", 35 lb, and a 1/2 inch male thread adapter. The included list is the unit, two insulated hoses, a power cable, waterproof tape, a manual and a submersible pump. The maker's advice is "best performance with ≤120 gallon tubs", though the same page says it "works with all tubs". A spec table gives 75°F to 50°F in 8 to 10 hours and 75°F to 45°F in 12 to 14 hours, based on about 66 gallons. Amps, voltage and flow rate are not shown. My arithmetic: 600W divided by 120V is 5 amps, if the unit runs at 120V, which the page doesn't say.
1HP Cold Plunge Chiller. The page shows $1,099, a low of 36°F, 16.5" by 13.8" by 18.9", 73 lb, and a package of 21" by 22" by 28" at 83 lb. It includes an external filter and pump system, three insulated pipes and an install kit. The power figure is 2,600W in the key features and 2,700W in the comparison table and FAQ, and it is labeled "Max Cooling Power", which is a cooling figure, not what it draws from the wall. The tub volume it handles changes by section: "up to 110 gallons", "≤200 Gal.", "90-150 gallons" and "100 and 150 gallons". The cooling claim is 80°F to 40°F for up to 110 gallons "in about 8 hours" in one place and "5°F per hour" in the FAQ. My arithmetic: 40°F in 8 hours is 5°F per hour, so the two claims agree, but the FAQ figure doesn't say what tub volume it refers to.
Cold Plunge Tub with Chiller (Pod). The page shows $569 for an inflatable tub of 31.5 inches by 29.5 inches, 92 gallons, 9 lb, in "high-strength, UV-resistant nylon", plus the same 1/3 HP chiller. The set includes an ice pod, lid, cover, valves, six legs, a drain hose, a hand pump, a cushion and a carry bag. My arithmetic: $569 for 92 gallons is about $6.18 per gallon of tub.
Cold Plunge Chiller + Tub (Max). The page shows $659 for a "Long Pod" tub of 47" by 25.5" by 25.5", 148 gallons, 9 lb, with a PVC inner layer and a nylon outer layer, plus the 1/3 HP chiller. It says the tub fits two people for an extended plunge. A separate filter isn't shown as included. My arithmetic: $659 for 148 gallons is about $4.45 per gallon of tub. The chiller page itself says it performs best at 120 gallons or less, so a 148-gallon tub is above that figure.

Shipping, returns and warranty
Every product page says free shipping in the mainland US, mostly via FedEx, 2 to 5 days, with orders usually shipping within one day from New Jersey, California and Georgia. International shipping isn't shown.
Returns are 30 days from delivery for a full refund, if the unit is in good condition with original parts and packaging, and light use is acceptable. Refunds are issued within 5 business days. The pages say there is no restocking fee and also that the refund is "minus a small return shipping fee", and the amount isn't stated. My arithmetic on a 1 HP unit: it ships at 83 lb, so a return fee could be real money. Ask for it in dollars.
The headline warranty is two years. Under it the pages say functional issues in the first year are repaired or replaced, and the Max page's FAQ says "1-year warranty". I can't tell what year two covers. That is the question I'd email.
Conflicts I found on the pages
- Discount: "Clearance Sale with Code POD30" and "No Code Needed. Discounts Already Applied" on the same Pod page.
- Savings: "Save $630" against a "$700 off Cold Plunge Chiller" badge on the Pod page, and "Save $740" against "$700 off" and "50% OFF" on the Max page. Fifty percent off $1,399 would be about $700, not $659 (my arithmetic).
- Warranty: two years in the headline, one year in the Max FAQ and "within the first year" in the text.
- Refund: "full refund" and "minus a small return shipping fee" together.
- Power: 2,600W against 2,700W on the 1 HP page.
- Tub volume for the 1 HP: 110, 150 and 200 gallons depending on the section.
- Minimum temperature: the Pod and Max pages claim 39°F, while the FAQ test reached 42°F after about 8 hours at 66 gallons and 70°F ambient.
- Test volume: the cooling figures use 66 gallons, but the Pod holds 92 gallons and the Max 148.
- Pump: one submersible pump in the list, and an "additional submersible pump" in the images on the Pod page, and "integrated", "inline" and "dual-pump" descriptions elsewhere.
- Filtration: "self-cleaning" on one page and "rinse the filter monthly" in the FAQ.
- Reviews: Trustpilot shows 4.7 in the header and 4.6 from 242 reviews on the Pod page, or 295 on the 1 HP page. I haven't audited the store's rating.
Pros and cons from the pages
Pros:
- Low prices for the stated horsepower: $499 for 1/3 HP and $1,099 for 1 HP, against $500 for the Renu 1/4 HP and $1,099.99 for the Penguin 1/2 HP in my roundup.
- Free shipping and 30-day returns with no restocking fee stated.
- Included parts are listed, down to the waterproof tape.
- A phone number and support email on the home page.
Cons:
- No amps or voltage on any of the four pages.
- No certificate for the UL and IPX8 claims.
- Conflicting warranty, power, volume and discount statements.
- Every price is a sale price, so I don't know what the price will be next month.
Frequently asked questions
Is Plunge Chill legit?
It looks like an operating store with a phone number, a support email and a stated return policy. I haven't ordered, so I can't speak to delivery or support, and the Trustpilot figure on its pages is its own display.
Does a $499 cold plunge chiller work?
The page says it cools to 39°F and gives a table of 8 to 10 hours for 75°F to 50°F at about 66 gallons. Its FAQ reaches 42°F in about 8 hours, so the 39°F claim looks optimistic. I haven't tested any.
What size tub does the 1/3 HP chiller suit?
The page says "best performance with ≤120 gallon tubs", so the 92-gallon Pod fits and the 148-gallon Max sits above it.
Which Plunge Chill tub is cheapest per gallon?
By my arithmetic, the Max at about $4.45 per gallon of tub against about $6.18 for the Pod. That doesn't account for quality or for a larger tub being harder for a small chiller to cool.
Is cold plunging safe for everyone?
No. Talk to a doctor first if you have heart disease, high blood pressure or are pregnant. I give no dosing or benefit advice on this site.
What I could not verify
- Delivery, noise, cooling time or support in practice. I haven't ordered.
- Whether the units are UL-certified or IPX8-rated, since no certificate is shown.
- Amps and voltage for any unit, and flow rate for all of them.
- The pages for the Pro, Plus and XXL sets, the Filter Kit and the Cold Plunge Tubs category.
- How long the sale prices last, and whether code POD30 does anything.
- The size of the return shipping fee.
- Real cooling time at the volume of your tub.
- The Trustpilot rating, which I didn't audit.
What I would do
Choose the tub size first, then decide whether a 1/3 HP unit is enough for it. Email support@plungechill.com and ask for four things in writing: the volts and amps of the exact unit, what year two of the warranty covers, the dollar amount of the return shipping fee, and the final price at checkout with and without code POD30. If the answers are vague, treat the order as final.
